Mission Statement and Goals

The UCLA Language, Emotion, and Memory Lab (LEMLAB), under the direction of Dr. Don MacKay, Ph.D., studies the interrelation of emotion, language perception, production, and memory in young and older adults. The primary goal of the LEMLAB is to better understand how emotion affects memory and langauge processes in a variety of contexts. Our work also explores the relationship between language and memory processes in healthy older adults. Other areas of interest to the lab include the effects of hippocampal and amygdala damage on language performance, the effects of bilingualism and phonological structure on word retrieval, and, more generally, the importance of theoretical development to the advancement of psychology.
